University Press  (and honored as a Notable Book of the Year 1996 by the New York Times Review of Books): It concerns the terror bombing Dresden on February 13 1945.  You think that you will agree that by this time the war was conclusively decided... ...Dresden was now selected for a Main Force Raid in response to Soviet requests for Allied air support.  The city was the main reception centre for hundreds of thousands of refugees displaced by the Soviet advance, and for their relief teams, mostly young women. Ten minutes after the Primary Flare was dropped, the first wave of 529 Lancasters began to arrive from the south-west on a flightpath of 68 degrees.  Undeterred by flak or fighters, they dropped a lethal cocktail of high-explosive blockbusters and incendiary clusters. Within 45 minutes, the firestorm was raging.  Dresden's heart, and everyone in it, was consumed. In the morning, as relief columns [medical personnel] approached on the ground, a second wave of 450 Flying Fortresses of the 1st Air Division of the US Strategic Air force arrived.  Fighter escorts strafed anything that moved. [including women and children] Huge discrepencies divide the estimates of the damage.  The British Bombing Survey reported 1,681 acres totally destroyed.  The post-war Dresden Planning Report counted 3,140 acres 75% destroyed.  The local Abteilung Tote or Death Bureau reported 39,773 identified dead by May 1945.  This figure did not count for missing or unregisterd persons, unrecorded burials or the contents of numerous mass graves. It must be reckoned an absolute minimum.  The chief of the Bureau later ventured an estimated total of 135,000.  A British historian has suggested a range of 120-150,000... The strategic impact of the raid appears to have been slight.  Trains were running through Dresden within two days.  Vital war factories, such as the electronics plant at Dresden-Neusidlitz, were unscathed. The Red Army did not arrive until 8 May. I'm being only somewhat facetious. Germany did the best it possibly could do with the jets given their tardy production, and they simply would have become relatively easy targets for the superior Anglo-American jets if they had not been deprived of fuel and time with which to operate in significant numbers. You mean the ones arriving via time machine? German aircraft production stayed relatively high but like their tanks in the Ardennes, they literally ran out of gas. Like the German tiger tanks, Me262 were a relatively small percentage of the force. Sure.  By the time Germany developed those jets it was already defeated - mostly by the Soviets. No, Germany was mostly defeated by the Anglo-American air forces and navies. LOL.  See above. The Soviets attritioned the German Army, Yeah, kind of like the Americans merely attritioned the Panamian or Iraqi militaries.  From Norman Davies: the D-Day landings would be the sole operation fought by western armies that might scrape into the war's top 10 battles. In one single operation in 1944, when demolishing the Army Group Mitte in Byelorussia, Marshall Rokossovsky destroyed a collection of Wehrmacht divisions equivalent to the entire German deployment on the western front. http://www.timesonline.co.uk/article/0,,2092-1592247_2,00.html German sources...state unequivocally that 75-80% of Germany's losses were incurred on the eastern front. The implication is that all other contributions added up to a maximum of 20-25%. Of this, the Americans might claim 15%, and the British 10%. ...and they inflicted most of those 25% losses on an already weakened German military. but the German Army was quite incapable of defeating the coming Anglo-American offensives, LOL.  Those guys had trouble with 16 year old Hitler youths.  The one time the Germans threw anything resembing their eastern front forces against the Americans was during the Battle of the Bulge. with  or without the Soviet contributions. The only difference would have been the timing, cost, and choice of battlefields. Coming back to the original point, remember that the Soviets fought 240 German divsions while the western allies only had 70 (less lavishly equipped, and manned largely by the under or over-aged people who couldn't cut it in the East) divisions. You are simply parroting one of the oldest pieces of false Soviet propaganda and disinformation. Davies is more of a Russophobe than Russophile.  And what about U.S. colonel David Glantz? The U.S. divisions were typically double or more times the strength of the German divisions. Yup.  All the real German fighting power was getting its asses kicked by the Soviets. BM

It seems that soon will disappear quite a large number of very Buy food online being girl Katowice airport transfers popular music videos by artists such as Madonna, Red Hot Chili Peppers, and Led Zeppelin.
