When he vomits, is he bringing up food? Did the 'fast transit' time show up via transport through the stomach, or in another area of the upper digestive tract? Has the doc suggested any form of medication whatsoever? And, as strange as it sounds, has he been tested for any form of food intolerance issues? Any history of GI issues in your family?Common Digestive Disorders3 yr old w/bowel/other issuesInitial Message Posted by: DameAndChrisMommy Date: Jan 22, 2010.My son is 3 yrs old. He was completely healthy until almost a year ago when he started crouching into a ball every 15 minutes, complaining of stomach pains, and having "diarrhea". His stool is watery but also flakey, and it ALWAYS smells like moth balls. We took him to his pediatrition who did blood tests, stool tests and x-rays, which all came back normal and showed nothing. We changed his diet a couple times including not using wheat products and then cutting out dairy. All of which did nothing to help. The pediatrition then referred us to the Hershey Medical Pediatric Gastroenterologist. They have done more blood tests and an endoscopy...also coming back normal. We recently found a lump in his stomach, which the periatrition referred us to Hershey Med Pediatric Surgeon who has ordered an ultrasound and we are currently waiting to hear back from her.
She said that it could be a hernia in which his bowel is sticking through a tear in his abdominal wall, and that it probably has nothing to do with his other bowel issues (?). 2 Days ago we rushed my son to Hershey Meds ER because he had an erection for a total of 6 hours and he was in great pain. They took blood and his urine (all came back normal) and admitted him overnight. They released him the next day...with the problem still there but alot better and said come back in 4 weeks. I know this all may be unrelated, or it could be. My husband and I are just frustrated that our son has to live with all this pain and discomfort and no one can figure out what it is. We have decided that if a hernia is not present and still no one knows what is causing any of this we will forget Hershey Med and try out The Children's Hospital of Philidelphia. We are so confused and....there is no wat to put into words how we feel. Our son is sick and no one can figure out why. So I t
hought it woulde be worth a try to post it on here and see if any one has any ideas? Its heartbreaking to see him in this pain. He should be starting school soon but since he cant be potty trained, that wont be happening. We just want him better, so if any one has any ideas/advice or just words of encouragement. We would really appreciate it. Thanks so much!Bloody bowel movementBloody bowel movementMessage #1: Bloody bowel movement Posted by: CalGal37 Date: Jan 22, 2010.SJM, this could be a matter of bleeding hemorrhoids - which can produce a LOT of blood at times - but the first step is to call a primary care doc and get it checked out. The doc will probably want to do a rectal exam which isn't horrendous and possibly do a few other basic tests before considering moving on to a colonoscopy. Primay care docs can do sigmo
idoscopies to get a better idea of what's going on in the area of the anus - sometimes that's all it might take. Start with a primary care doc and see what happens. Also find out as much about your family GI issues as you can. If there's a history of inflammatory bowel issues in your family it would be a good idea to make sure the doc is aware of it.Celiac diseaseCeliac diseaseMessage #2: Celiac disease Posted by: TracyP2010 Date: Jan 22, 2010.Have you had a food allergy test??Daily nausea & vomiting, and more!Daily nausea & vomiting, and more!Message #31: Daily nausea & vomiting, and more! Scan was called "HIDA" or "HYDA" - something like that.Common Digestive DisordersFood allergies or other issue?Initial Message Posted by: biirrd Date: Jan 22, 2010.I'm having a problem with extremely odorous stools/gas. I have no gall bladder and am missing a large portion of my small intestine (I believe doctor told me 9-12 foot section). The problem wor
sens when I eat anything with soy in it. It also worsens when I eat something like a sub sandwich (the bread bothering me?). My stools are often somewhat loose. I don't have any pain or discomfort. I do occasionally seem to be bloated. Does this sound like simple food allergies? Should I try eliminating wheat flour? I've already eliminated soy with much improvement. I must add that beans do cause me discomfort and I avoid them. Does my shortened small intestine play a role in this?Food allergies or other issue?Food allergies or other issue?Message #1: Food allergies or other issue? Posted by: TracyP2010 Date: Jan 22, 2010.Have you ever had a food allergy test?? If not you might want to look into it so you can try to avoid certain foods that might be causing you problems.Common Digestive DisordersGallbladder painInitial Message Posted by: desert68 Date: Jan 22, 2010.Had my first gall bladder attack yesterday. It was at the ER that I was informed that I have gallstones. I've been to my Doctor already and I'm waiting for a referral to a surgeon. Is it normal to still feel tenderness. I feel it in my back just under the shoulder blade. Lethargy & diarrhea after breakfastLethargy & diarrhea after breakfastMessage #7: Lethargy & diarrhea after breakfast Posted by: TracyP2010 Date: Jan 22, 2010.Hello All-
I have many of the symptoms of Celiac (bloating, excess gas, lethargy, diarrhea, etc.) but got tested (blood) and was negative. I have bad reactions to gluten which cause these symptoms and others (migraines, and aching) so I avoid eating it even though my skin test was negative for wheat allergy. I am really confused because I avoid gluten and other foods I am allergic to but still have problems. Any ideas with what else this could be would be great! Thanks!Common Digestive Disordersmorning bowel movement and alcoholInitial Message Posted by: psbeaman Date: Jan 22, 2010.Recently I have been haveing stomach problems after drinking. For instance last night I had 3 beers with dinner and felt fine. The problem comes the next morning. I feel a bowel movement coming (with no pain). Once I begin I feel pain in my stomach and w
hile doing the business. I don't have diarehha, but it is not normal poop either. ONce I am finished a queezy/upset feeling follows me for a while after finishing. It doesn't seem to matter about the type of alcohol(beer or liquor ... dark or light). From what I can figure 1 or 2 drinks and I'm fine most of the time. This was never the problem through college and only started recently. Any ideas?morning bowel movement and alcoholmorning bowel movement and alcoholMessage #1: morning bowel movement and alcohol Posted by: CalGal37 Date: Jan 22, 2010.Psbeaman, alcohol is a dehydrating substance. The more taken in, the more the body will put out hormones to try to keep the fluid levels in the body - and therefore the blood pressure - stable. In addition, the intake of alcohol causes the liver to have to work a lot har
der to 'detoxify' what's coming through = alcohol. Alcohol can also irritate the stomach................. Unfortunately, it could be one or a number of factors including what I mentioned that
