Interactive and Sustainable Planning through the Internet An invitation to share your views The municipality of Zwolle, the Netherlands, has launched a new internetsite that seeks to establish a virtual community in which spatial and environmental planning problems will be discussed by professionals and enthusiasts from different disciplines and backgrounds. With this website Zwolle hopes to contribute to the development of interactive planning through the Internet. You are invited to check out http://www.zwolle-city-development.nl and become part of our community. You can check out Zwolle's ideas on specific planning problems, discuss them in the online Forum or contribute own ideas in the Designshop. The website currently features the problem of the elevated motorway A28 that runs through Zwolle's Central City zone. Zwolle is searching for solutions to integrally restructure motorway A28 and its surroundings to strengthen Zwolle's economic position, to secure the accessability through the motorway, and to improve the urban structure in a sustainable manner. Intensified use of the space surrounding motorway A28 is believed to be the key. Zwolle wants to engage in a discussion about possible solutions for its Motorway A28/Central City Zone project. To do this, Zwolle has set up the internetsite http://www.zwolle-city-development.nl. On this site you can find out all about the backgrounds of its Motorway A28/Central City Zone project. One of the attractions of the site is the possibility to view 3D images of the Motorway and surroundings. This 'IPIX'-technology makes you feel as if you are standing inside the planning area. There are two main elements to establish interactivity between the municipality of Zwolle and the visitors of the site: the Designshop and the Forum. They allow you to upload your ideas and comments directly to the site. Already there is one very challenging design submitted by Icelandic designer Jon Kristinsson and his team from Delft University of Technology. Kristinsson is renowned for his revolutionary ideas on sustainable infrastructure planning. Using valuable space and fighting noise are the most important features of his contribution called A simple plan . Although the plan for the future seems simple, its philosophy is quite sophisticated. We invite you to check it out and discuss it at http://www.zwolle-city-development.nl! To make your visit even more attractive Zwolle will reward the best contribution to the site with a fully-paid visit to a conference in The Netherlands where you can present your winning idea for the Motorway A28/Central City Zone project. Zwolle is looking forward to your contribution to this exciting new internetsite. Zwolle believes interactivity and openness to be crucial elements of its planning processes and hopes this site will be a step in the development of new ways to achieve this. This too is one of the things we would like to discuss on our site. So, come on over and let us know what you think - we need you to make this site work!
