I was at the bank today and was informed by the tellers that the bank would only be allowing commercial account holders to get one 50 cent roll of pennies per week.  When I asked why, I was told that the Federal Reserve had a shortage of pennies and the banks would not be getting their normal volume until this fall. So here it is guys.  An official shortage of a coin made out of precious (though not too precious) _meta_l.  I'm saving all of mine and I won't let go until each penny is worth 10 dollars?  <BG  You guys might want to reconsider selling all that gold and investing in the new penny market. Now back to your regularly scheduled programming.

 What about german pfennnings?  I have a whole Asbach (5l) bottle of them. But you kids know that there is not really a penny shortage.  Not until the might Mr. Sherman weighs in with his opinion on the subject.  Can you provide a url Mr. Brock?  This is just anecdotal evidence that has to be dismissed. Peace Farmer. I really just posted it as a curiosity.  Actually, all anyone has to do is to call their local bank and ask.  My understanding is that the shortage isn't regional, it's national.  In fact, I'd really like to be able to confirm it. Not that it has anything to do with Y2k, except perhaps some lessons about how a monetary unit of exchange, that has it's basis in a precious _meta_l, responds to a shortage.  Perhaps shortage is the wrong term to use.  It may be more of a distribution problem.  Either way, its attributable to a decrease in production and not an increase in demand driven by Y2k. BTW, you should have seen the look on the tellers face when I told her that I had a lot of pennies in a jar and I'd bring them in when the price hit $1.00 apiece.

You know, Bob and I usually don't see eye to eye on things, but this is rather interesting...I wonder if Bob or anyone else could get more inforamation on this.....Who would have EVER thought there could be a shortage on Pennies?
